Students use the Accelerated Math program every week to master objectives, based on their independent math level and the skills we are working on in class. The program works by following a sequence of steps in order to master objectives:
- Students are given a practice containing objectives assigned to them by the teacher.
- To pass an objective on a practice, students must correctly answer 5 out of 6 of the objective problems.
- Once the students have passed the objective on the practice, the students are then ready to test on it.
- Tests are printed for students once they have at least 3 objectives ready to test.
- To master objectives on the test, the student must correctly answer 4 out of 5 of the questions.
- After students have mastered objectives, they will be given review problems on the objectives periodically.
- Objectives that are causing students to struggle are retaught through the use of an exercise.
- Students are given exercises to complete with the teacher's help.
- These objectives will then show back up on the practices.
- The cycle of practice, test, review repeats throughout the school year.
- Each 9-weeks, students will be given an objective mastery goal
- Students must meet or exceed the objective goal with a test average percent correct of 85% or higher to have met all of the criteria for that 9-weeks.
- These students will receive an AM certificate at the 9-weeks award assembly.
